Behind the Preserved Series
'Preserved' is a three stool collection expanding on the idea of waste material preservation. Jahankhani started the project with saving locally sourced waste material using a natural preservative method felt fitting. This method provides added benefits such as waterproofing, increased integrity and natural resistance to fungus, it also enhanced the grain. 3D scans of reclaimed logs led to renders to aid in keeping the material minimally processed, this allowed for iterations to be tested without the sacrifice of the limited material. He made three stools intentionally in height order, where each off-cut section found a purposeful position intertwined to form sturdy legs which kept cutting to a minimal. Jahankhani's work uniquely embodies flora followed by form and function; the nature of the reclaimed wood inherited shaped the ultimate design and utility of the object.
